Steve Percival

Steve is a young Cambridge undergraduate at St Radegund’s College, Cambridge who has just completed Finals, graduating with a 2:2. He is the first person on either side of his family to attend university. His father died in the Korean War when Steve was an infant, and he was raised by Mavis. He spent a year working in Frankfurt before Cambridge and speaks German, though initially less fluently than his employers expected.
At the opening, he is seeking rapid income to settle his college bill and initially rejects a secure job with a German company. He becomes a milk roundsman and rents a house in Ainsworth Street with Ginny Stern and Jon Chapman, an alarmingly countercultural couple.
